Just finished Rick Atkinson's World War II trilogy on the European Theatre. Three of the greatest military history books I have ever read. Took me six months to get through all three and worth every minute of it. Some folks can write military history and some folks just make it a terrible bore. Atkinson has "the gift." I don't read much other than military history and have a huge library on World War II. These three books are in my top ten. His first volume in the trilogy, "An Army At Dawn," covering the war in North Africa from '42-'43 won the Pulitzer Prize. And btw, most military history books has deplorable maps to guide you through the action. Atkinson's maps are among the best I have ever encountered. As a matter of fact, I have made copies of them and plan to use them in my future readings when I return to these topics. If you are a military history lover and haven't read Atkinson's trilogy, you have a fantastic treat waiting for you. Go for it.
