That,s correct Herb.
Sadly General Motors Holden will cease producing cars here in the next 2 years.
They've been building cars here since the late 1940's.
Ford Australia will also cease building here a year earlier.
Toyota has also pulled car production which means Australia will no longer build cars, all will be imported.

1954 and 1/2 (model change year) GMC Panel Truck(got it 1973). First GM Truck model with a one piece windshield. Inline six and "3 on the tree" gearshift. Windshield wipers operated off of intake manifold vacuum ...

Great machine for hauling gear to and from gigs ...
We added a sofa, coleman camp stove and 4 hose hookah in the back ............

1958 Nash Metropolitan hardtop, red and white, much like the one at http://www.desertclassics.com/image2...59metroDC1.jpg but not as clean, and worth a lot less at the time. Sometimes I wish I still had it.

When I was growing up, my family’s first car was a ’49 Plymouth sedan (with running boards!) that seemed to have a near-bottomless radiator--my earliest memories of it are having to stop twice while crossing the Tappan Zee Bridge to top it up from a watering can.

First car I ever owned was a 1972 Datsun 1200, bought new in 1971. Had it till 1983.

My first car was the car my Dad bought my Mom as a wedding present.
A turquoise 1962 Ford Thunderbird.
390cid
Auto lite carb replaced by a Holley.

The first car I rode in after birth.
The car I left my wedding in.
Not a day goes by that I don't think about that old car.

1971 Plymouth Barracuda w/ 318 and 3 speed on the floor. It wasn't quick compared to today's cars, but it looked and sounded fast.
I would post a photo of it, but Photobucket is a PITA to use.
I sold it for 900 bucks when the transmission started to go bad. I still don't know why I didn't just drop a 4 speed into it...dumb!
I see what '71 Cudas are going for these days in lousy condition and I kick myself.

My old man bought THREE Austin Americas. Two '69's and a '70.
One ran and the other two got parts pulled off of them periodically.
The most fun I had with a truly slow car.
It did seem that it was down for repairs almost as much as it ran.
I agree that the Spitfire would have been way more fun.

Actually owned? The same one I still have today: '00 Ford Focus ZX3. Silver-blue with a black bra, 130 HP 2.0 DOHC, manual transmission.

It's in very sad shape, as you can see:

Cracked windshield, missing rear-view mirror, chipped hood, three missing hubcaps. At least it's in good mechanical shape after a recent expensive engine overhaul and a clutch master replacement.

My first car was a Triumph Herald. Was surprised to see someone else with that one, too. It had a 948cc engine, but was pretty zippy, and a fun car to drive.

My second car was a Triumph 3a. Really loved that car. Had it through college, was in excellent shape, and bright red. Sadly, one of my girlfriends rolled in on the driveway to our college. Amazingly we weren't hurt. It got fixed up, and sold for very little to finance my travels. Just checked the going price on line, for one the same year and condition. Boy has their value gone up!

Made mental note; never lend a guitar to piper_guitarist.

1977 Buick Regal "Special" - It cost less in 1984 than one tire would cost for the car I'm driving now. Those were the good old days. Tempus Fugit...

Default first car..first guitar

1966 Volvo 4-door sedan with a stick shift I never mastered and an ignition key that would bend and break in the key-slot if you weren't careful...Had been the family car. My father gave it to me in 1971. I promptly sold it and bought a Martin D-28. Not the best car I've had, nor the best guitar (1972 was not a vintage year for Martins) though I kept the D-28 till 1998. I didn't get another car till 1975. I've had waaay more guitars than cars in my life...

1968 Mustang coupe. 289/auto. Bought it in 1975. Paid $50 for it with a blown engine. Pulled an engine from the junk yard (another $50), took it to Vo-Tech and had the auto repair department install it. Had it on the road for 7 months and my mom totaled it.

She gets ribbed about it to this day.

My first was a Toyota Corolla I bought new in 1974 with money I earned, but later on when I was older I had a couple of Triumph Spitfires. I loved them. The last one I had, about 1978-80 or so was a new red one with the removable hard top.
