Default SOLD (Gurian Indian Rosewood S2R)

Gurian S2R acoustic guitar. Hand made by renowned luthier Michael Gurian between 1980 and 1981. Serial Number D1518 (serial numbers begin at No. 1100, so this is guitar No. 419 out of 1418 that were made).

Gurians are rarely sold and are highly sought after because of their tone and playability, and the guitar I’m selling here has a beautiful and balanced tone. It’s often pointed out that Gurian is the guitar of choice for many celebrities, including Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and Paul Simon…and it’s easy to see why.

This guitar is in very good shape and I am the second owner. When I purchased it in 1993, it had one hairline crack on the back that I have not repaired since it doesn't affect the sound. A qualified luthier installed a top-of-the line under-saddle Fishman pickup (a no preamp model).

Indian rosewood and spruce, Schaller tuners. Comes with hard shell case.

This is a professional-grade instrument.

$2450 My contact info: [email protected] ; 508-277-2197

If you need to ask the price you cant afford it. Or so the saying goes. It would be of benefit to interested parties.

Some specs would help. Not too many here are familiar with the Gurian line-up. They usually have a narrower string spacing (nut & saddle) than most other builds.

OK. Thanks for the suggestion. Here's what I've got to the best I can measure at the moment, according to what I think people might be interested in...

14-fret instrument
Nut width: 1-7/8
String spacing: 2-1/2
Scale length: 25-5/8
Upper bout: 11-1/2
Lower bout: 14-3/4
Body length: 18-7/8
Widest body depth: 4
Overall length: 40
Neck thickness:
-@1: 13/16
-@5: 7/8
Action: 1/8 @12 with John Pearse phosphor bronze light

By the way, I see that Photobucket degraded the resolution of my photos, so (of course) if you would like better pictures, just email me and I will get them to you. Thanks!

1 7/8"? Man, that is a wide nut on a Gurian.

Love these guitars....wish I never sold the one I owned.

Ukejon - you're right (good catch). It appears that his standard nut width was 1-5/8 [Correction: it appears that he made a range of nut sizes]. This is the only Gurian I've come across with the wider nut.

I should have mentioned that this guitar has a well-played in sound. And that's because it IS well played in.

I say Yay! for the wider nut. We fingerstylers (most of us) would love it. If only I wasn't a professional player, then maybe I could afford to pick this up. Good luck on your sale.

Thank you for the comment, Phil. This guitar is great for fingerstyle! And that's the reason I bought it in the first place - I'd been searching for a guitar that was "well-behaved" across a handful of open tunings as well as in standard...and I liked the body shape and size. I'm not a very big person so the ergonomics of this guitar was a godsend. Thanks again.

If anyone is interested, I'll try to attach the link to a photo of the 1-7/8 inch nut.

I've seen and heard this guitar in the flesh. Not a nicer Gurian around with the preferred string spacing this one has. No regrets here.
