Default Looking to improve

I have been playing guitar for a few years now and need to expand my abilities. I mostly strum. I am looking for FREE or inexpensive resources to teach me to grow. I know lessons would be ideal but that is not a viable option right now. Any suggestions?

Just posted this in the "Chordbook" thread but IMO the place to go on the internet is:

http://justinguitar.com

Justin Sandercoe offers free lessons for every playing stage although it's nice if folks send him a donation every once in a while

Check out his site and I don't think you will be disapointed.

Oh and welcome to the AGF. Lots of good people here with a vast knowledge base.

The internet is a great resource!

You Tube videos are nice!

Or if you have a friend who is a serious guitarist who can
give you some tips and direction..

Hooking up with good musicians...serious musicians.

I also agree on both Justin Sandercoe and Marty Schwartz.

also scan through the pages here for previous postings. At least once per page, you'll see a relevant thread (individual songs on youtube, or best video teacher, or how to learn X style).

+4 on Justin.

Learn the pentatonic scales! Start with Em pentatonic at every position on the neck. Than Am pentatonic. With these scales you can do leads over almost anything in rock and blues music. Very easy to memorize.

Aside from Justin Sandercoe, I also really like yourguitarsage and Todd Downing (both on youtube). Truefire.com is another nice resource, although you do have to either purchase lessons individually or subscribe.

I don't have as many as Justin yet (who I agree is great), but I have free lessons on my YouTube channel:
http://www.youtube.com/user/JerrysGuitarBar

or if you'd rather download the lessons with full tabs (still free):
www.jerrysguitarbar.com

All the best.

I just bought my first guitar lesson ever... www.littletobywalker.com

I am trying to graduate from strumming to real fingerpicking.

Dale, or tonedr on Youtube (or Maplebaby here on the AGF) does great step by step instructionals for popular songs. Here's an example: http://youtu.be/vCDnjXxsxaY
