Mike,

I'd love to see a clip real time (of course not the full hour...). I'm curious of your application pattern and how wet it goes on. I French Polish all of my instruments and your finish is to strive for!

Oh and what a fantastic build. Thanks for sharing!

Best,
_Mike

Thanks Mike -- someday I might do a slower video of french polishing but it is tricky to show something that relies so much on feel. It is a bit hard to explain how wet the application is and it constantly changes depending on how the session is going. A first session typically starts quite wet and oily (by my standards), gets progressively drier, and ends with almost no shellac and just a little bit of alcohol.

And for the curious, the reason Chopin is the perfect musical accompaniment to french polishing? His father was French and his mother Polish, so he IS French Polish!

It's about time I woke up this sleeping thread! After the holidays and an unexpected family emergency it's closing in on two months that I've been out of town -- finally back in Montreal and ready to get to work!

The back and sides are looking good and probably will just need one more french polishing session...

The neck is carved and will get filled/french polished over the next few days. Hopefully I'll be spending a good bit of time in the shop in the coming weeks and should have this one strung up by the end of the month.

I posted about this in the main forum but thought I'd add it here as well. I'm quite excited to have a killer jazz player, Jonathan Kreisberg, playing one of my guitars on his just released solo album, "One". He's holding it in the promotional video for the album...

Good to be back and thanks for looking,

Mike

So nice to be back in the shop and especially nice to have the first bit of work be to finish up the french polish. Quite relaxing and starting to look pretty good...

I'm also pretty happy with how the top purfling turned out. I installed it the same way I would radial purfling -- glue up with a teflon strip, pull it out, then glue in a wider strip. In this case however, the mahogany strip was cut in the same direction as the grain and not perpendicular as with normal radial purfling. This means little bits of curl pop up all along the strip. I was hoping to get a subtle shimmer effect around the edge and I think it turned out quite well!

Thanks for looking,

Mike

What an absolutely EXQUISITE instrument Mike!!! Also ... Congrats on the sale to Jonathan Kriesberg! Jonathan is one of the most gifted jazz guitarists to come out of New York in some time and now he's recording with his Indian Hill guitar!

I'll definitely post a video or some audio once it's finished. I usually get a friend of mine, Mike O'Brien, to record demos for me. You can see some of them here...

Mostly just french polishing the past few days. The neck is starting to look nice and shiny...

Probably start on the bridge tomorrow and hopefully get the neck glued on this weekend!
