Thanks Phil! How is the best guitar I've ever heard (your Meridian) doing?

I like the color of that cocobolo as well. The contrast with the clean, white top makes it even more striking. It's going to look fantastic with finish on it. Sounds like the countdown has started.

Out of curiosity, Jenn, what sound and/or playability requirements did you prioritize for this guitar?

There weren't a lot of playability issues. He knows that I like the neck on my CX, just 1/32" slimmer at 1 25/32". Shorter scale than my CX at 25.4", as I have too many friends with hand problems, and besides, the Martin scale length feels good in regard to bending, vibrato subtly, etc.

A "sound", however, is what I'm after. I truly fell in love with the coco negro/blue spruce guitar that now lives in Oklahoma, which I played at Healdsburg. I wanted just a tad more bass, and I think that the Carpathian will give me that. And, Mike knows that my playing touch is pretty light. I need the most tone from that light touch. Finally, I'm fond of a sound that is not heavy on overtones; I like an emphasis on the fundamental of the pitch, and with plenty of sustain.

Other than this, I had no requirements at all! ;-)

Jenn

It got a good playing today at my gathering! I played it after playing the mahogany, and covered Tom Rush's cover of Joni Mitchell's "Urge for Going" - one of my favorite tunes and quite timely! That one really sings. Juston's going to have it's twin, and I'm excited to hear yours someday soon!

I still love the Martin SPs with both of them, with the D'Addario EJ's (PB) right behind. Really nice tones from those with these guitars.

Phil

HAPPY DAY! I learned today that I pick up the instrument on Monday! Actually it could be the end of this week, but I'll be out of town for Thanksgiving. Happy happy! Mike promises pictures before the weekend.

Wow Jen,
I love Mike's work and that looks really gorgeous!

As for muscle-memory/scale length, did you ever make a strat player find the 12th fret on a Les Paul with their eyes closed? 14th fret every time!

OK, back at the office now. I'm nearly without words. I'm so incredibly impressed with this instrument. It brought tears while I was at Mike's shop. The sound is already incredible; it's going to be fun to hear what it becomes! Delicate, rich, fundamental, loud. The wood work is spectacular. I've not heard a guitar sound so right when new. The bass is strong yet not too much so. The trebles are clear like bells. Unbelievable.

The Anthem pickup sounds great in it.

Pictures to follow this evening. First gig will be a week from tonight. With Dorian Michael at Rose's Landing in Morro Bay, if any locals read this.

Ahhhhhhh!!

That's awesome. I'm really happy for you. How did it come out weight-wise?
