Cypress classical guitar build
Hey agf, I used to post under a different moniker but just made this new profile. I'm about to start my second classical build, a cypress and spruce guitar influenced by the design of Torres' FE-18 with the aesthetics of FE-04. Pics of this build to come but while you're waiting here are some pics of the spruce/cypress classical guitar I built in Stephen Hill's workshop in Granada Spain. It only has a washcoat of shellac so far and will probably sound better once I polish it.

Brian! Good to see you back. Your building has progressed a lot.
So you spent the summer in Spain? Back in school now? Stopped thinking smoking looks cool (I hope--but the Spanish can be a bad influence)?

Hi Brian. I made three flamencos and a classical this last year myself. Hope to make more. Perhaps it's the next big thing.

Thanks!
Howard, not exactly; due to some financial uncertainty and uncertainty regarding my continued studies of history and literature (two fields that don't seem particularly economically viable) I've decided to take a year off. I spent this past summer working 40+ hour weeks as a custodian to save enough money to attend Stephen's guitar building course and now am in talks with a classical builder in Andalusia about an apprenticeship so I'm not too sure when I'll be headed back to school. Regarding the smoking... I had nearly quit prior to going to Spain but as you say, the Spanish can be bad influences. I know it's not cool and that I should stop, hopefully soon. I think so Bruce! I've become so enchanted with the classical and flamenco guitar I've decided to dedicate myself to only building them! |

Your guitar looks real nice, and cypress is so pleasant to work with and play on too. I look forward to seeing your FE18-influenced instrument, having a fondness for Torres's smaller guitars myself. Was FE04 one of his highly-decorated models ?
