Martin make two jumbos. The grand jumbo is too large for me to handle, however the 'regular' jumbo (a dreadnought with a waist) sits at the perfect height when placed on the knee/lap.

I know of the J-40 (had one once -for about a month!) and the "pretend J-200 thing, but please tell me the model number of the third type of dreadnought. Best, Andy

For me, my favourite all around size is the recently discovered 0000 size by martin. I just would not be able to go back to OM/000 size after playing one. Much more powerful but not boomy like a dread with exceptional balance. Fantastic body size!

I love slope shoulders, both Martin 12 fret dreadnoughts and Gibson J jumbo bodies. I have been experiencing extreme lust for a Smeck style 12 fret slope, Gibson built or otherwise. Some day...some day I will possess one!

I can't vote. There's no choice for a 00 12 fret.

Ahh, that would be their take on the Gibson Jumbo.

Which is a silly (moustache) omission - sorry about that.

Deep body (actually about the same as my Collings dreads), but short scale and a sunburst to die for.

That, of course is the secret of pre dread Martins - exceptional balance - the sort of thing that Collings now offer.

No apologies necessary - it was your preference I'm asking about.

I'm actually not sure any more. For a long time, it was either the slope shoulder/Jumbo/J-45 shape or 000. Lately, I've played a few Dreads that I've really enjoyed and I'm really starting to question what I used to think about the shape.

I like dreadnoughts the best by far, they just feel the most comfortable to me. I also like the Taylor Grand Orchestra size, very expressive.

Lowden F, McIlroy A shapes.
Taylor GC shapes too. Love my Martin 00-18, but the shape is a little clunky looking. |
