Default Brace For Maria

Man. Looks like another Cat. 5 hurricane heading into the Caribbean islands again. I sure feel for those people.

Just hit Dominica which was decimated by Irma. So many variables to its future track.

Maria looks really bad.

We are bracing for Jose.

One at a time - we haven't gotten through Jose yet...

It's horrible, but Irma never hit Dominica.

I hate to say it, but October might be worse. The waters south of Cuba are warmer than the waters Irma and Maria have been in by far.

My family is still dealing with the aftermath of Irma in PR. I can't believe this is happening and this seems like it's gonna be much worse.

For the past ten years my wife and I have been regular visitors to St John USVI. We've made quite a few island friends and were deeply saddened to see how devastated Irma had left St. John. Word had just recently filtered back to us that our friends were safe but now it appears that Maria is about to make landfall once again very near St. John. I fear for my friends and the island that I've grown to love. It seems so unfair for this to happen twice to them.

For many years my wife and I have vacationed in one of the Caribbean Islands. Thinking back, we've vacationed on St Thomas, St John, Antigua, St Martin, Pueto Rico, St Kitts, Nevis, Dominican Republic, Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda and our favorite Tortola. It looks like the people on every one of these islands is in a living hell. I am happy we haven't booked this years trip -- however it is heartbreaking to see the devastation, especially given the fact that there is very little margin that supports life on these islands. Most natives have very little to begin with and I can't imagine their lives will be back to anything that resembles normal for years if ever.

It doesn't matter much and Maria did devastate it, but it was largely spared from Irma.

Once again, it's a moot point.

I wish your family the very best in getting through this storm. It's certainly hard to actually endure such an intense storm, but also hard, and strange to watch on TV from afar, wondering if there is going to be anything left, including potential injuries or death of family, friends actually there.

We have a vacation home in Fort Myers Beach located within 5 mi. of Irma's western eye-wall. We dodged a bullet with only $75 damage (blown-off vinyl siding), now fixed. Some homes weren't as lucky, but no one we know was hurt or worse. Of course, Irma was down to a cat 3 when it passed near us. PR is getting hit much worse.

Again, best to your family on the ground there.

Thanks man. Family is safe so that’s good but it’s not over. Now the biggest danger is flooding.

Took this as it was happening while face timing with my mom. We got disconnected a few seconds later.
