My Guild JF30 was purchased used, and came with a button installed in Position 2. I never liked that because the guitar always felt as though it was trying to twist away from me as I played. A few years ago I began attaching the strap to the neck using the Planet Waves quick release, purchased inexpensively at Sam Ash. Within a week I had adopted that method on all four of my steel string acoustics. Reliable and easy.

So I got my strap buttons in the mail today.
It is now on the Guild in position # 5 and looks great.
The strap fits nicely and doesn't get in the way of fretting up the neck.

Thank you everyone for your comments and help.
It really helped me decide what to do.

I believe the majority of players and manufacturers prefer position 5.

I bought a D-55 in 1977 and put the button in position 2.
I wish I hadn't.
I prefer 5 on my acoustic guitars because of how the guitar 'hangs' when the strap is attached there.
I won't move it because I don't want a hole in the white plastic at the end of the heel.
I use Position 4 for my Guild. Position 5 for every other guitar.
