Default Video Camera

This might should go somewhere else but the mods can move it if that's the case.

Is there such a thing as a decent, cheap video camera for You Tube type videos? Would the $20-$30 Skype things from Amazon work OK?

I think they would be fine, or you could just use your phone or tablet. If recording audio and video through separate sources, you could stitch them together with a free DAW like StudioOne.

Hi Skip

A smartphone which can shoot 1080p works fine for YouTube.

If you want to improve the audio, set a Zoom H1, or H2n just out of frame to capture the audio and combine them in post production.

No matter which computer format you use, there are cheap/free video editing apps for computers which allow you combine video and audio before uploading. In fact, many will render the video and upload it for you.

I think the video quality on my smart phone is excellent. I use a Blue USB condenser mic connected to the charging port of the phone. I downloaded an app called Open Camera, and which allows me to select an external mic as the input for the video. No mixing involved.

I would concur if you have a smart phone with 1080 or even 720 you can make a decent video

I've done all my Youtube stuff using a point-and-shoot digital camera. Most of them have video capability which isn't too bad, normally 720, some newer cameras are higher.
I can't stand the fisheye lenses in most of the "Youtube" cameras that are marketed at present.

Here's the last quick demo I shot a couple weeks ago using my digital camera and it's internal mic:

For "cheap" professional level...
Panasonic G7...
Records in 4k 30fps with quality close to cameras 3 times the price.
With 4k you can zoom in when editing without loss of quality.
Pair it with a zoom h5 and a pair of sm81s and you're done.
