NGD...my first electric!
Here he is, bought this from my coworker, it's a Fender 2011 American Highway One Tele w/ 60th anniversary neck plate. It's my first electric guitar ever and really love the feel of the neck and jumbo frets. I already cleaned him up, performed a full setup and couldn't put it down for and hour when giving him the first test drive. The pickups are real hot, but I'll eventually be swapping the stock pups out for the Texas specials. I'll also be swapping out the bridge for the newer 6-saddle bridge to get better intonation handling. My wife also likes a black pickguard better, so I'll be swapping that out too, eventually.
Here he is all cleaned up with strap locks installed: And here are the shots when I first brought him home. Last edited by joeguam; 03-23-2014 at 06:41 PM. |

Congrats on the first and I'm sure, first of many new electrics to hit your home.
It's a real beauty and I'm sure will bring you much happiness. Also, nice job on swapping pickguards for the wife. Just curious, what amp are you running it through?

Now that's a great "first" electric, Congrats! Are you swapping out the bridge because you're finding intonation issues with the stock bridge?

Thanks everyone.
I don't have an electric guitar amp at the moment, but I'm looking. Right now I'm running it through my pedalboard which has a 7-band EQ, a digital delay, a reverb, a wah and a boost. To tell you the truth, I actually really like the tone that I get from the neck pickup just running through my Bose L1 Compact. Go figure! Yeah, I'll be swapping out the bridge because setting the saddle to one string brings the other slightly off...and this bugs the crap out of me. The only way I can bring it closer to the correct intonation is to adjust the height of one side of the bridge, but then I have different action on different strings...and that stinks. |

Nice, Congrats! You might want to think about just replacing the saddles with GOOD compensated brass saddles instead of going the entire bridge replacement. Don Rutter makes great ones, and so does Callaham. You will get just as good of intonation and I just think Tele bridge pickups sound much better with the 3 saddle system. Just my two cents FWIW.

This will just allow me to get a better handle on the intonation. |

Just ordered the upgrade/replacement parts from warmoth.com:
- 3-ply black/white/black pickguard - replacement screws for PG, bridgeplate, neckplate and control plate - 6-saddle tele vintage bridge Here's a mock-up photo with the black PG, I think it looks a lot more sharp than the white PG, especially with the rosewood fretboard and the chrome cover for the neck pickup: |

Congrats Joe! Teles are fun. That one pic looks like you need to get a high e string too.
Have fun! Let us know what amp you go with. |

Yeah, the seller snapped the high-e string while trying to slap on a new set for me to try out. I replaced the entire set once I cleaned him all up and buffed the frets/fretboard.

Congratulations on new Tele.
They are real versatile guitars and simple to use/modify/set up. Looks like goodies are on their way from Warmoth and you will have some fun. Enjoy!
