I'm a little late to the party, but I'll join!
No fingerpicking pieces for me, but there are plenty of other things I've been meaning to learn, so I'll work with those.

Great! Feel free to set the timeline and goals that work for you. (and fingerpicking is not required!)

Okay, you seem pretty open to variation on a theme.

My 5 week commitment is to play sans tab for 10 minutes a day. Truly, this would be amazing for me. I commit to 5 days only per week. I am so tab-dependent that I am rendered music-less in its absence.

I am going to do this.

Should it yield results? Then I'll commit to learning pieces, not tabs. Ear stuff.

May I suggest 10 minutes a day for the first week.. then 15 minutes the second week.. 20 the next... etcetera etcetera

Thumbs up

This almost got past me, or it might be more accurate to say that it did get past me, but anyway... I planned to get on board after I followed the last challenge, so count me in as a late start. It's too late tonight for me to think about this coherently, but I'll pop back on with a game-plan, etc.

This is a great goal, Ryler. I've recently set about learning most pieces by ear rather than tab / dots. Music definitely sticks better when learnt this way. That said, I'm currently in a flat-picking place... I'm not sure it would be so easy to learn fingerstyle pieces by ear, certainly some of the more complex ones.

Kind regards
Derek

Day 3: a "just okay" practice last night, could have been better. There were a few times where I got pretty fed up (especially on some of my more recently learned pieces) but there were also times where things went better than I expected. Oh well, it is practice after all. It's not always going to go perfect.

I think tomorrow night will be my first recording after a lay off. I think I'm going to record my latest piece, Woody Mann's Hudson River Boogie. I'll post the results.

Not sure if the open mike is going to happen this weekend. I have a load of soil coming Friday for the lawn and garden and a birthday party for my sister-in-law on Saturday. We'll see what happens.

How are things going for you guys?

Did not keep up with the electric as planned but played more that 1 hour each day on acoustics so that levels it a little.
For some unexplainable reason yesterday I picked up the classical guitar and tried to remember some of the pieces I learned when studied at Uni...
Antonio Lauro was a favorite composer of mine for classical guitar and two pieces came out of my fingers... "La Negra" and "Vals Venezuelano No.2".
I am almost there with refreshing them after which I will see if I remember how to play the "Vals Venezuelano No.3".
Then there are my own comps to take care of... and those blues songs... and the repertoire on the 12 strings..
Ok ok I will pick up the el. gtr too! Darn promises!!!!

I don't know how you do it Picking Moose. If I tried to focus on all of those styles I'd snap.
