Questions about Ressler guitars
I'm shopping around for a cutaway OM, and I came across this on Reverb. What a looker! Does anyone know anything about this luthier or have experience with his guitars? Feel free to message me.

John is a good guy. I've played his work (shortly) and was impressed with the tone and workmanship.

Thanks, Chris. Apparently not many AGFers are familiar with his work. I'll probably go with something more traditional, but the woods on this guitar are really something else again!

What are the B&S woods on this?

I'd hazard a guess at walnut, possibly Bastogne...
Very striking whatever it is. |

Don't know anything about him, but that is a looker for sure. Fantastic piece of Walnut there! The top was listed as 100 year old Cedar gotten from lake Michigan? I would think the woods alone would help this to sound pretty great.

The ad says black walnut, but I've never seen black walnut so highly figured!

I've been very fortunate to have John as a close friend for about 10 years now. I think that back/side set is claro walnut and if I remember correctly, I finished a guitar made from a sister set for a builder out in Washington state. To learn a little more about John, you can look at some of the instrument classes that he teaches each year at Marc Adams School of Woodworking. John is one of the most busy, yet calm and composed individuals I have ever known. Instrument making is a serious hobby and passion of his as well as teaching others to build.

If I remember correctly, that was the same model that I had the pleasure of playing- similar tonewood combo as well. It was responsive and complex with a beautiful tone... and that's what I picked up in a noisy room. I'd say it would be worth taking a chance on. John is a good builder.
