Being a practical sort, if I needed that, I'd do it.

However, I think we'll go with something more traditional, like a StewMac ivoroid end pin.

The neck has been fitted to the guitar, nearly ready for finish now.

Holes drilled for the tuners, and the nut is nearly complete.

Gorgeous ... and I love that tortoiseshell peghead veneer!

Paul, I may just sit and stare at it a bit, but the proof is in the playing. That is a guitar's highest purpose I think.

David, thanks for the compliment. While this is not a Martin copy, it is certainly more traditional than modern in style and structure. The back strip is a Martin inspired creation of Howard's, but not from the 1930's as is much of the rest of the trim. The tortoise headstock is a little off the beaten path, but again not unknown in 1930's and 1940's Martins. Both are traditional, but a bit out of the ordinary.

No suprise that Mr. Klepper is building such a spectacular guitar. Must feel good. What types of glue did Mr. Klepper use and where were they used?

Here are a few more photos.....

A shot of the nearly finished nut. As with prewar Martins, Howard installed it before finishing the neck. The nut slots are cut for spacing, but final setup will come later.

Pore filler and the color coat is complete on the neck. Some prefer a natural (clear) finish on mahogany necks, but I like a darker color as Martin has traditionally done. I think Howard captured that perfectly. Final finishing to come.

The sealer coat is on the body now, so we can get some idea of how it will look under finish. More gloss and depth of grain pattern to come though.

And the rosette. Good looking spruce!

Todd (and Howard) the guitar is progressing beautifully. A great combination of Nazareth tradition with some elements of bespoke, custom luthier "lagniappe" in the wood figure and backstrip...

That is looking wonderful Todd! I would love to have a 'tactile' experience with this guitar!

Thanks, Bob! This is my first custom guitar, and being able to work through all of it with Howard has been educational and just a lot of fun. He knows I'm an engineer and very interested in how things work, so he's included me in the conversation on several things, especially wood choices and trim, but also structure and function. I've deferred to Howard on all things structural, but I appreciate his willingness to include me in the process. All clients might not want that level of detail, but I have enjoyed it.

Virginia isn't that far away. If you're in KY some time let me know.

I never thought the day would arrive when I would learn a new word on the AGF, but I have to confess I had never come across "lagniappe" before, and had to Google it. A most excellent word.

Good decision to spray the neck dark ... I find clear finished mahogany necks rather off-putting , tbh. That walnut back is going to look amazing once fully finished ... and it looks pretty good now.
