Default Ordered a Marshall DSL 15 H amp today...

I have a Marshall 1-12 cabinet with a 75 watt Celestion speaker, but needed a amp head to go along with it. I heard some demo's on You Tube and thought it sounded great.

Your DSL 15H will sound great through your Marshall cab. Is it a G12T-75 speaker? That's the standard Celestion that's found in the 1960A and B 4x12 cabs.

You probably already know this but make sure you compare the Ohms rating of the cab and amp ... and use a speaker cable (not guitar cable).

IME one of the most endearing qualities of tube amps is that you can customize your tone, in a way that can't be duplicated by any modeling circuit, simply by swapping different makes of tubes into different positions - don't be afraid to experiment...

Use it well, often, and LOUD...

Yes The cabinet has a G12T-75 Celestion speaker. It has a 16 ohm rating, and yes, I already have a regulation speaker cable. So I should be good to go.

Scheduled delivery is for this Friday afternoon.

I heard some demo's of the stock tubes on You Tube and they sounded like just what I wanted, a very nice smooth sounding clean, and a nice crunchy (think Joe Walsh) overdrive sound. So I should be happy with the stock tubes.

I'm also getting a Marshall foot switch in the deal. this is for toggling back before between the two channels....very nice feature.

I compared it to a Marshall Haze amp head. The Haze had a bunch of built in effects, but didn't have the rich tones that I heard in the DSL. I figured I could add effects with either my DAW or foot pedals. Now was the time to concentrate on getting a good solid raw tone.

This reads like a pretty decent low-wattage amp...a lot of pros are going that way these days because high wattage = high weight and harder get them cooking at bar gig levels.

Don't be too shocked at how loud this little guy can probably get, if some of the other 15-watters from companies like Orange, Matchless, et al, are any indication...could probably hang in there with a drummer in a bar gig (unless your drummer is insane...are you listening, drummers? ).

BTW, you might want to consider swapping out that 16 ohm, 75w speaker for something that's a bit better match for that amp...maybe a lower wattage 8 ohm Celestion if your budget allows, or maybe an Eminence...very nice speakers at very reasonable price points...or a 30 watt Hellatone...? That all kind of depends what style of music you play and what your pocketbook can tolerate.

Thanks for the speaker advice. I'm not planning on taking the amp out, just want to use it for recording. The speaker I have now will have to do because I can't afford to buy multiple speakers at this time.

Years ago I had a Marshall 50 watt with a 4-12 cabinet. At it's lowest volume level, it shook the house and ticked off the neighbors. I couldn't use it. So 15 watt should produce more than enough volume for my needs. Right now I'm only concerned about getting a great tone. From the demo's I saw on You Tube, this amp should deliver.

Here's the demo from You Tube that sold me on getting the DSL amp head...the guy is getting many great classical tones out of it effortlessly.

The Marshall has arrived. I did a quick check with it and everything seems to work okay and I can get many different sounds out of it. Everything from clean to distorted, it's right there, and no BS distortion pedals needed. Sounds great thru my Marshall 1x12 cabinet. Plenty of volume. Plenty of distortion at low volume if needed....The cabinet appears to be in like new mint condition. Even though it's used, it wasn't used much. Buying used I saved about $100 of the listed sale price. I'm very happy with it !!

I bought it from Sam Ash and they treated it like it was a pot of gold...I had to sign for it, and they made sure that I knew that with two emails that spelled out what would happen if I tried to re-direct the shipment. The two Fed Ex drivers seemed to be nervous about something, apparently some people have been ripping them off lately.

That's a great looking rig!!! Have you cranked the amp yet? Those 15 watts will blow your ears off .

Thanks !! I accidentally cranked it up about half volume and hit the channel select switch and almost blew the roof off the house, scared the hell out of the dog, ticked off the neighbors, but boy did it sound good !!! I love this amp head because it gives you full control over shaping your sound any way you want. It has the needed tone and presence controls. It has two channels, you can set one up for a clean sound and the other for a nice gritty lead, then toggle back and forth as needed. Perfect.

Last night I experimented with chorus and delay pedals....all I can say is this amp is sweet !!!!!!!!!!!!! Buying this amp was a very good decision !!!!!!!

So awesome! I have no idea why, but I'm working with a local guy on a custom amp....18 watts with a switch that will let you cut it to 9 watts. He uses vintage Hewlett Packard tone generators as the control panel. Fun stuff....that I don't even really need....

My Marshall has a switch on the back that will toggle between 5 or 7.5 watts. I forgot all about that !! I'll have to check it out later...

This amp is really going to sound sweet when I get the Tera Echo TE-2, foot pedal effect.
