Default Deleted my SoundCloud account

A quick google of my name showed some third party free downloads of my stuff that I had posted on SoundCloud. Made me nervous, even though it was only the soundtrack from some YouTube videos. I deleted the whole account, folks can get it all on YouTube anyway. I just released a new CD and I guess I better be careful about where I make it available online, guess an old dog needs to learn new tricks!

I also deleted my Soundcloud, as well as my Songclick, account. Security issues aside, Bandcamp is a far better service.

can you describe this situation differently?
I don't understand what it means "third party free downloads of my stuff".

and so I can't follow the idea on to comprehending the potential security risk.

thanks

Third party tools exist (https://www.google.com/search?q=soun...utf-8&oe=utf-8) that can capture a SoundCloud stream and allow one to download it, even if the uploader has disabled downloads. YouTube videos can also be downloaded in a similar fashion.

I don't get it.
It's overly simple to download files from YouTube so it's not any safer.

Regardless of whether it's SoundCloud or Youtube, stream captures are limited by the media which, in both cases here (I think) is 128kbps. I know SoundCloud downsamples for streaming but don't know if Youtube is the same. Admittedly there are far too many people that don't care about the quality of their MP3s but those of us who do will pay for the higher quality.

If you're really worried about it then only offer excerpts of tracks or a teaser compilation video...

I like the Soundcloud app and the integration with other programs I use (such as Garageband on my iPhone). However, Soundcloud as a company is struggling to find a way to make money. Who knows how long they will be around. Certainly if you have tracks that are important to you on the service, I would want to have backups elsewhere.

I agree that anyone who wishes to avoid a loss of sales because of 3rd party download should consider only uploading a clip from the piece.

i was curious about the policy at Soundcloud regarding downloads, and went over to their help section, and found this bit: Free users have a download limit of 100 downloads per track, Pro users have 1,000, and Pro Unlimited users have unlimited downloads available for their tracks.

it isn't clear to me from the 3rd party downloaders if they are able to bypass the limits set by user level at soundcloud.

i gave up on soundcloud when i, and many others, lost most or all of their songs from the site. i don't want to take the time to reupload them so i'll try something else.

I hate to say it, but if you make your songs available online in any way someone will be able to download it. The nature of how the stream has to work (even just to get to you speakers/soundcard, make them easy targets.

This is the very reason iTunes only has 90 second preview clips and not full tracks.

Yes, people can capture/record your stream from any source. I found a number of my older soundcloud recordings on some Asian sites - including a 30 minute radio show I had appeared on, which had 2 live songs and 2 recordings on it - for sale as is.
I'll put songs I'm working on up on Soundcloud so others can hear them, but then will delete the song. Occasionally, I'll put a released song on there for submission to blogs, but will go back and delete it later.

Once you put your music anywhere on the internet it is easily copied and may start appearing on other websites.
Ninety nine percent of the time who cares? What is lost from that? If you want a few pennies reimbursement for
from some of those websites then also digital distribute your music through something like CDBaby.
