Default Cool ORTF mount

I recently picked up a pair of Miktek C5's and while playing with mic positioning got really nice results with ORTF. I wanted to find a way to more quickly mount the mics in this position and started looking at stereo bars.

I came across a link to these cool 3d printed ORTF mounts and decided to give on a try.

https://www.shapeways.com/shops/srsrecordingservices

There is a not a specific model for the Mikteks but the KM 184 version fits. The mics are automatically at the correct angle with the capsules 17cm apart. The whole thing fits in a standard 20mm mic clip.

Maybe worth looking at if you use ORTF alot.

That's pretty cool! I've been keeping a protractor and ruler in the mic closet at the studio to set up my ORTF arrays and this would make it much easier.

It fits in a standard 20mm mic clip. The one in the picture is kind of loose, but some of my other ones were more snug.

I ordered a couple diiferent clips after Anton posted about these. It's a great idea (3D printing on demand) and the clips are perfect.

The Rycote Invision series of shock mounts are an elegant and very effective holder for the Shapeways product.

I actually set up a stereo bar for ORTF and then glued everything in place so I can whip it out and be setup without all the fussing. I typically use ORTF for location work, so I'm always under the gun on those.

I just had an e-conversation with the maker. There are now two versions. The one pictured is designed to fit a Shure A53M mount. He's got a new version now that will fit Rycote INV suspensions which will give it shock protection but he says the Rycote version will fit the Shure mount as well. AGF poster Anton is using his in a standard 20mm clip so we know that works too.

I'm going to order a Rycote version mount for my Gefell M295 pair. I'm guessing that will work in any of the mounts mentioned. The maker said he'll work up the design today and send me a message when it's posted on his site.

Hey thanks Jim I will definitely keep this mount in mind for when I get another Schoeps CMC6-4. I do like the suspension mount that comes with the Schoeps
