It may be time for the sports media to admit the 2-time champion Giants are actually a good team.

Maybe 18 innings will get their attention.

Unhappy

It may be time for me to admit that my Tigers are in way-big-jumbo trouble.

Holy cats, 18 innings. Stellar pitching by both teams. Anybody know if that was the longest playoff game ever? I don't remember any 18 inning games during the regular season, but then my memory is not the best these days.

Well, on to SF.

I watched the last 9 innings of the Giants game. Some great pitching. I love games where every pitch counts. What a crazy weekend for baseball.

It's easy to see why they didn't think so.

At the start of the season conventional wisdom was that the Giants would need to remain healthy to be a contender, especially in a division with the Dodgers and Clayton Kershaw. That didn't happen, what with Matt Cain, Marco Scutaro and Angel Pagan out with season ending injuries. Brandon Belt has also been on the DL with injuries.

On top of that Lincecum can no longer fill a starter role reliably but instead has been relegated to the bullpen and isn't pitching. For the same reasons Romo is no longer being used as a closer but is pitching middle relief.

I think Sabean and Bochy have done an incredible job of filling those positions. Finding Hudson and Peavy to start, Hector Casilla to close. Joe Panik looks like he'll be in the line up at second base for the forseeable future.

The Giants were red hot at the beginning of the season. That's what kept them in contention when things started to go south. If they make it past the Nationals it will be because of smart moves by management in acquiring players and bringing up others from the minors.

Yes, it was the longest playoff game ever. And the pitching was outstanding.

Unfortunate circumstances for the local San Francisco fans. Those who do not subscribe to, or can not afford cable/premimum tv stations will not be able to view game three. That, and a "to be determined" time for first pitch in tomorrows game once again proves that greed trumps all.

Congrats to Kansas City and Baltimore who swept their series. Off to the pennant.

Looks like we won't be able to view the game at home.

All true. My view however is that the general tone in both the wild card vs. Pittsburgh and th NLDS vs. the Nationals was that they were outmatched and had no chance. Which is the same as was said before every series in both World Series runs. At some point folks need to realize that this is an organization and team that is better than they think and who know how to win.

10 straight playoff wins in a row now. National league record. I look forward to seeing if they can do it again.

Mike Wilbon at least seems to understand they're not a team to write off.
