Wade Thurman
I just heard that one of our long time AGF members, one who joined us in November of 2002 and later served as a Moderator for a number of years, Wade Powell Thurman, known here as wthurman, has passed away. At age 57, it seems much too young! He was a good man, and I was honored to call him my friend. His AGF Bio says that he was a guitar player, songwriter, and happy husband from Louisville, Kentucky, where his career was in IT Data Security. Please keep his wife Kelly and other loved ones and friends in your thoughts and prayers. Gotta love Wade's AGF signature:
Worry less about the guitars you want. Play the guitar you have more. The answer will come, and it will not be what you expect. A guitar is a tool, and a friend. But it is not the answer. It is the beginning. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/lou...&pid=185203736 cotten |

This breaks my heart.
Wade was one of the AGF members who I ran into regularly at events--whether it was the Monroestock gatherings in NC, or smaller gatherings in MD, VA, and FL, or the Healdsburg festival in CA, or the house concert we did together in KY. Was just thinking of Wade this week, too, since one of my former Hamblin guitars is currently for sale in the market place and it was Wade who first told me about Hamblins. Just a few hours ago, I posted a picture of the "Hamblin triplets" in that thread. The cedar/cocobolo SJ in the center of those pics was originally Wade's, and was the first Hamblin I played--the one that inspired me to order two custom Hamblin builds. Wade later sold it to me because he knew how much I enjoyed it. Later on, I sent it back to him. Anyone who knew Wade will attest he was one one the nicest, most genuine people they knew. He'll be missed, and my thoughts go out to his wife and daughter. Here's a picture of Wade and I doing a duet at an open mic during one of the original Monroestock gatherings: And here he is a couple years later at a house concert we did when in California for the 2005 Healdsburg Festival: Here we are, relaxing after that concert with another talented guitarist, Ace Batacan: That smile was infectious, and that's how I'll always remember him. Goodbye, Wade. I'll miss you my friend. Last edited by Jim Tozier; 04-28-2017 at 05:26 AM. |

I'm 57 and that's too young. A fellow Louisvillian and I never met him...sounds like that is my loss. My condolences to his wife and daughter.

I did not know the gentleman, but I mourn his early passing.
Our family is lessened by his absence. Condolences to his family.
