Les Pauls are for young boys with strong backs.

I have both a Gibson Les Paul standard and an American Strat with HSS humbuckers. Honestly, I hardly ever play the Les Paul. To me, it just screams heavy metal. I'll play it when I'm going for a more metal sound but the Strat is a lot more versatile. Actually, I play my Gibson 335 more than the Strat though.

It's hilarious to me how many people commented without following the links.

I admit, I DID click on the links but didn't look close at the prices. $395 vs $657, right? Then when I saw the other comments, I went back to figure out what the joke was.

oops....

I didn't do it this time. One of the other Mods.

Just amuse yourself with how many don't look to see the price of the LP.

They're really quite different instruments....play them and decide. Other, and wiser, posters have already noted that this is really sort of single-coil vs humbucker preference, with things like scale length and body weight and feel and such all orthagonal to that.

Play what you love. And love what you play. That's what it's all about.

MODS !! I demand to be moved back to open mic, where I belong .
Well I feel bad now for suggesting the move. I checked the links and thought the humor would go well on the electric forum.
I was all prepared to suggest the price was because once purchased you would suddenly play like and have the success of Knopfler on Brothers in Arms. Then with that hurdle "strattled" the Strat would play itself like Clapton . Guess I'll stick to my PRS and spend the savings on lessons !!!!!

I personally own 14 Fender strats, but I'd probably go or the Les Paul just to have some variety.

By the way, REAL guitar players can make ANY electric sound good.

You can choose by the looks alone. If you play them through a modeling amp, they'll sound exactly the same anyway.

Well, I've always said " In my opinion, a Les Paul is about 601.2177 times the guitar a Strat is..." And wouldn't you know, your links you provided hold true to that assumption.

Well, if you go with the Les Paul you'll need a suitable amp to go along with it. I humbly suggest this:
