Default NGD: Eastman T486

I always like researching guitars other people are looking for so when someone posted in the AGF classifieds on Sunday 6/4 that they were looking to trade for an Eastman T386 I, of course, looked it up, started reading the forums and reviews, listened to several Youtube vids, etc. and after a couple hours started checking Ebay and Reverb to what if there were any deals out there. And as I was looking on Ebay a new listing popped up for this T486 and at a price that was less than most of the T386's were listed at, and saying "best offer". Well after emailing back and forth with the seller, who lived within about 125 miles of me, he offered me a killer deal and I bought it. IDK if we're supposed to mention price but it was well south of $800 shipped. He shipped it yesterday, 6/5 and I received it today on 6/6.
I bought this thinking it would replace 2 guitars, my SG which is for rock oriented music and my hollow-body jazz box which isn't really good for anything but clean jazz, and I believe this actually will do that. And I can't believe how easy it is to play....unbelievably easy. I was kind of worried about the 1 3/4" nut width but the neck is so slim it's not a problem at all. Barre chords are effortless and I can already do my scales faster than either of my other 2 electrics which are both for sale now.
I think I'm going to be really, really happy with this.

Nicely done! I'm glad it turned out to be such a great guitar for you.

The ES-335 is one of the most versatile electric guitar platforms ever. You've done well here, for sure. The weaknesses in most Chinese guitars are the pickups and the wiring harness. You can take a good guitar to another level by upgrading those, but you may not even feel the need.

I owned a T386 for a while and upgraded the standard pickups and wiring for some nice Seth Lover pickups. What a killer guitar. The t486 with the Duncans is a steal for the price. Congrats on a great guitar

Wow! Great looking double parallelogram inlays. Do you still think you'll get rid of the SG?

I had the same guitar, and did the same mods. Great guitar. Ended up selling it to help pay for my Firebird though.

That's why I opted for the T486 over the T386. Not to say the Kent Armstrong-designed PU's in the 386 aren't decent...most people like them. But the T486, as someone stated above, comes with Seymour Duncans....Jazz neck and 59 bridge....and from what I've read the CTS brass shaft pots.

It's sold already. The problem with the SG (490r/490t PU's) is that I couldn't get close to a nice, clean crunch on it. I just play by myself in my music room, and I'm sure it had a lot to do with my low powered amps but even on the clean channel of my little Fender Champion 40 there was just too much distortion for some things I wanted to play. Killer for other things though of course.

If you've got an SD jazz/59 combo, you're set on pickups, for sure. Great set-up. And CTS pots are first-rate as well. Nice acquisition!

Cherry red was always my favorite color in a semi/thinline (still is) - BTW, what are you using for amplification...?
