Default How to remove scratches on a gloss poly surface?

Got quite a lot of scratches on my guitars. Can anyone tell me how to remove them in a non-invasive and easy way?

Thanks
Brian

Scratches can only be removed by buffing which is a mildly invasive action.

Can this be done at home by hand? If yes, please teach me how...

It can be done at home but the results can vary depending on how deep the scratches are. You would use a soft cotton cloth and a dab of McGuires automotive #9 polish and rub over the scratches in a small circular motion. This may take several minutes of rubbing because your are removing the finish down to the bottom of the scratches. If the scratches are down to bare wood then you would certainly not want to go that deep or you would not have any finish left. duh! McGuires sells a "scratch remover" which is a more aggressive polish but would need to be followed up with #9 and finally with #7.

Its best to use a power buffer because the scratches are removed faster and the entire finish surface will be level. Using a power buffer is best left to someone with experience or you can launch a guitar airborne faster than the blink of an eye. If you don't know what you are doing you could easily end up making small ripples in the finish doing it by hand.
