Default Song writing guitar

I do my best composing and arranging with a new, really expensive guitar.

Sometimes for me songs are also inside a particular tuning.
I couldn't agree more on both things. Different tunings stop me from going back to the familiar - it's not that you invent chords in them, that's impossible, but I regularly use chords I didn't know I knew. Olson makes wonderful guitars - not only do they sound great (which is what really inspires the writer) but they don't crack in New York winters! As long as you take reasonably good care of them. The new ones he's making now are not quite as special as his old ones - a little less handcrafted I think.

Any guitar is good for me. I have been using my Gibson since I got it as:

1. Its new to me - so novelty
2. Very comfortable to play
3. Very forgiving when fretting so can grab clean chords/notes that I am not used to fingering.

I keep my beater hung on the wall, and because of this I play it about 3x as often as my Taylor, which stays safe in its case. That said, I do spend about twice as much TIME on my Taylor.

Particularly because I've got little kids and thus no attention span to speak of, accessibility is key. When inspiration strikes it's nice to have something close.

Whatever I happen to pick up. But, having said that, I've probably written more songs on the 612CE for the time I've had it than the others. It's smaller and more comfortable curled up on the couch or in front of a computer, so it tends to be the one I noodle with more.
