Default Just one of those nights

So the cosmos were not aligned tonight. I host an open mic on Tuesday evenings and tonight was a struggle. Problems with sound, mics, mixer, weather and walking. Just about sprung my ankle on a guitar stand, one of my mics got hot, very hot just out of the blue, it started snowing, the on/off button on my mixer broke, the venue was just about empty and I had to solo for the three hour open mic and there were few more little annoyances. I'm home, my gear is unpacked and I'm going to try and avoid all possible hazards, I think I'll read a book. Got to have nights like tonight so I can appreciate it when everything goes smoothly.

Yes, "stuff" happens - and sometimes it happens to you.

Kind of sucks, but it could have been worse - a lot worse. On our worst days there are lots of people who would happily trade places with us. Try and find some solace in that - and that it's over.

The exhilaration of a good night doesn't stay long enough and the self doubt of a bad night stays too long.

This will pass after the next one because rarely is it two disasters in a row!

Sometimes you're the bug, sometimes the windshield.
When I've hosted an open mic where the turnout is very low, I'm not afraid to ask the manager/person in charge- 'hey, how about we pack this up early?' IF they say no, then you just keep on playing. That's what we're paid for.

The bug and windshield quote is so true.
I could have left early but I was enjoying playing, I got a chance to tryout new stuff that's not finished, noodle over looped phrases with my acoustic and electric guitar, play around with effects for my acoustic guitar and see which ones sound good in this venue. I played around with my vocal pedal too, it didn't help my singing but it was fun anyways.

Default Karma

Wow!

What minor deity did you tick off?

Hopefully you got all your bad karma out of the way on one gig and the rest of the year will go smoothly.
