Schaller Grand Tune Keys-A Well Kept Secret?
I was just thinking about the Waverly tuner sale at Stew-Mac and how darn expensive these tuners have gotten, sale or no sale.
It's interesting that the Martin Custom Shop chose to put Schaller Grand Tuners on the CS-00041-15 that I have for sale over on the Buy and Sell. It's a real high end guitar ($10k list) and yet Martin chose the Schallers over the Waverlys. Granted the buttons are flamed Koa, but I'm sure Waverly could have put some Koa on for the folks from Nazareth! More to the point, the Schaller Grand Tunes are really smooth and so well made, and yet I have never encountered them on any other guitar I have owned or even played. They cost no more than Waverlys (actually a bit less), but seem to be a great choice for high end guitars. Are they a well kept secret or am I just slow to the party? I like 'em. Here they are on the Martin CS-00041-15: |

Schaller Grand Tune Keys-A Well Kept Secret?
They haven’t been on the market for that long, but I think you’ll see more and more of them. Martin is using them on many of the new 2018 models. I have them on my Klepper and really like them.

Yep...got them on my 2018 D-41 too. They are over the new "Reimagined" Standard Line as Todd said.

No experience with the Schaller Grand open back tuners but both my Olson SJ and Flammang GC had Schaller closed gear tuners installed by the builders.
Those guys seem to know a little something about using quality parts. |

I think of Waverly's as the Cadillac of tuners whereas the Schallers are the Mercedes-Benz of tuners. German engineering is hard to beat! Im fond of the Chevrolet of tuners...Grover 18:1's.

I'm a fan. I installed them as upgrades on a number of guitars.

I have them on my 2014 OM/PW... love them! Very smooth. Santa Cruz uses these and Waverlies on most of their guitars.

Off topic, but if you like the Grovers, try Gotoh SE Series tuners some time. I've come to rely on these above Waverly or any other tuners.

Grand tune
Sounds like a Govotte or something... I have them on one of mine, like them fine, but not better than the Gotoh 510s,(nor worse either).

Those Schiller Grand Tunes look superb! Very nice indeed. Love the pic RevRoy Posted.
I have Waverly’s on the Martin Limited Edition Outlaw I recently brought home. They are the smoothest and nicest tuners I’ve had. I have Grover open backs on the Martin OMC-18E and D-18. They are decent, but not quite as smooth. Question: Does anyone know if the Schafer grand tunes would be direct drop in replacements for the Grovers? If so, I might try a set. But if the screw holes don’t line up, I am not that motivated to plug holes.

Some of my 20+ year old Grovers are starting to irritate me, I may be not be using Grovers soon for the first time in my long guitar time. rct |
