I went the opposite way, with .13s on my Emerald X7, because it tightened up the tone considerably. There was a floppy feeling with lighter strings, and Ithink the hollow neck (this was an old model, before they incorporated a trussrod) contributed to some ‘slapping’ of the strings against the fretboard. All that was corrected with heavier strings.

I like to be able to play R&R guitar licks and 10-47 Elixir Nano 80/20s are on my CH-PA and CH-WS. Not as big a tone or volume killer as you might expect. I play acoustically with my friends who have various Martins and Taylors strung with 12s and have no problem getting a lead to cut through.

I will make the unprovable claim that maybe RainSongs hold up better to lighter strings that the alternatives, wood or CF. When I first tried the 10s I was thinking it would be on one guitar that has a pickup and now they've spread to all my guitars.

I use the low tension SCGC strings on my CF and it makes a huge difference in tone and feel. Mellows out the tone a good deal and the lower tension is easier on your fingers. Granted they cost a bit more but I get a very long useable time of play with them, used one set for over 2 months playing daily this past summer and they still sounded good. Sound better after on the guitar for a day to settle in.

What are “SGSC” strings and what size did you install?

I have some of those low tension SCSG as well but not on anything yet... maybe I'll try them on 2 of my CH Rainsongs... you know for that Phoenix Carbon Fest thing this Friday.

I use to use D'Addario Chrome Stainless Steel flatwounds on my Emerald guitars.
ECG24 (11-50) Jazz Light on my X7.
ECG23 (10-47) Extra Light on my X20.

I now use Galli 80/20 Bronze Flat wounds.
IMHO these Galli strings sound more like traditional acoustic guitar strings than the D'Addario Chromes.
Presently on the X7 are Galli AJF1150 Light (11-50), I feel (10-47) might be too light for the 24" scale.
Presently on the X20 are Galli AJF1047 Extra Light (10-47).
I'm very happy with these Galli strings.

Santa Cruz Guitar Company (or SCGC) came out with their own brand of strings recently, and designate them by tension instead of gauge.

Default Extra Light 10-47 Strings On A CF???

I just answered my own question with help from 121. Installed a set of D’Addario Phosphor Bronze EJ15 10-47 strings. The guitars playability immediately improved. No loss of tone and only a small loss in volume which is not a problem. YEAH!!!
