I have a pair of Shure SM 81s, bought one at a time as I could afford them. I've never been sorry and it was cheaper in the long run.

Hello!
Recorded a new video with a Taylor... Last Friday my baby turned one year and she loves "Moon River" so I had to make an arrangement for acoustic guitar, it was recorded between sleeps, first take (not perfect but I like). This time I shared it on my personal facebook page (it is not a fan page or something like that). Hope you like! Thank you https://www.facebook.com/RuiCostaMus...type=3&theater |

I can suggest the Line Audio CM3 SDC, which has beat out all of those mentioned in multiple shoot-outs. This mic is only about 160 and is the closest thing to a well maintained KM84, which would be around 4k
It's got that 'buttery top' sound on the highs. I add my internal pickup to fill in the lower registers. It's the only close mic I use, but many swear up and down on the Crown/Realistic brand PZM mics, which can be had for almost nothing This saved me years of time searching and money wasted on harsh mics. |
