Here she is with the bridge mock up. I decided not to keep this ugly guitar and I sold it to Papa Smurf who insisted on a blue fretboard. [emoji12]

What kind of finish are you using?

Also, could I get a little more detail on your mic placement? Is it mounted to the top or the bracing? Where is it pointed?

Absolutely beautiful guitar.

Thanks! We're using nitro as a finish with Z-poxy as a grain filler.

I didn't want the mic mounted on the guitar top after doing so much work to keep the weight down. I also didn't want a mic sticking out of the sound hole. A sound hole is the worst place in the world to stick any mic. I mounted it on the side, on the lower bout, right below the waist. Then I pointed it between the sound hole and the bridge plate. Now it's close enough to pick up some high end string sounds, but not too close to create boom. I like the mic (which is in omni pattern, so where you point it doesn't matter) to be right below the 6 o'clock position of the sound hole, just out of sight and tweak from there. Hope this helps

The Brazilian GF is also finished with bevels, bindings and purflings. Now just the sound ports and then lacquer.

meanwhile, the nitro on the first Madagascar grand finger style has hardened to the point where it can be finished in the coming week. Gluing up the bridge and then stringing it up. I hope to play it by the end of the coming week!

What a wonderful evening! For the first time, I heard the guitar we've been working on for so long.

Oh my god! I am almost inclined to call this baby a lap piano! I mean, it is still a guitar and sounds as such, but compared to the best guitar we could compare it to, it has more of everything. It is louder, it has incredible sustain, a lot of harmonics, and very rich thick treble strings. And that is just in the first hour. Imagine what this can grow up to be. I don't want to set expectations too high, but it is just a steel string guitar on steroids or something. More of everything.

It is not even done, because the pick up still needs to be installed and we have obtained mammoth ivory for the nut and the saddle. Tonight, it will be shaped that into the saddle. As you can see in the pictures, the nut is already done. Great marbling on that mammoth ivory that really fits well with the flamed maple.

Do you think that the guitar would have even more sound potential if you would build it without the arm bevel? It probably reduces the vibrating area of the top.

Actually there is such a thing as too much surface area for finger style. It just becomes slow. Though it won't matter very much because it is a small difference
