It has been well over a year since I've last composed a piece with this guitar. I admittedly don't play it much because I'm so afraid of putting a dent on it...

But every time I pick up my Tree SJ I'm reminded of how much I enjoy playing it. It would such a waste to keep it in its case...

So in the last couple of weeks I've been working on a piece which I've called "Rue Malouin". When I was in grade school, I'd meet the prettiest girl of my class nearly every day on Malouin Street at 12:50 pm. We'd have 10 minutes to eat our candies and walk to school. Life was good...

Thank you for listening.

Mau, FYI I keep getting an error message on this UTube. Don't know if that's an issue for me and my equipment or someplace else. I'm able, however, to tap into other UTube's without problems.

Ok.....all is good now.....Utube has returned!

Wow.....love the visual you gave of your grade school adventures which accompanies this lovely piece. (brought back a few of my own grade school adventures!). It's just exquisite Mau......your runs in the middle are mind blowing with their accuracy and the phrasing is perfect. Really liked the little bit of strumming at the end which adds into the pallet of sound you bring to this.
Once again.....taken away to a really nice place with listening to this piece. Life IS good when Mau posts a song!

Based on my playing skills alone, I don't dare to hope for even a miserable approximation, but you have inspired me to try to record a few of my guitars. Really more just to hear and preserve their tone, not really to perform which I've been restricted from doing in public (via court injunction) due to disturbing the peace (not to mention my singing causing ears to bleed).

Thanks for the inspiration ! Keep 'em coming !

You're too nice, Fred...

I came up with the main theme a couple of weeks ago, recorded an improvised version that was perhaps two minutes longer -- and then removed some redundant parts and rehearsed it for a couple of hours.

If my story happened in 2016 my parents and the school would probably be accused of child neglect...

Thanks for your kind words, John. I think every Olson fan should own a mahogany/cedar SJ. I think it's a great sounding combo. Not as warm and complex as rosewood/cedar but wonderful in different ways.

You should definitely recording yourself and your various guitars. At first I thought that recording was such a daunting task but it probably is the most useful skill I've learned (sort of) in the last few years.

And forget the court injunction and buy yourself a trombone. Or a bagpipe. Freedom of speech all the way...

I grew up in a small village so even when I was 6 or 7 I ventured pretty far away from home without any supervision. If I had kids I certainly wouldn't give them as much freedom...

Thank you for your generous comment, Jay. I can't sing so I try to express my feelings through melody and phrasing.

Beautifully conceived and played. Such a lovely melody....it certainly does evoke a nostalgic feel.

Exquisite Mau. I had a young blonde in my 1st grade class that captured my imagination. Glad you gave us the back story. I was glad to see her again as you played.

Thank you, Jon. In retrospect it probably sounds too nostalgic... After all those were happy times!

1st grade class? You started pretty early...

Memories like this make me wish I could go back in time... Sigh... All I could afford back then was a pack of Sweet Tarts (about 15 cents) but life was good...

Thanks for listening, Dennis!

Wonderful. I would love a recording of that piece.
