Vox amPhone Active Guitar Headphones vs. Plug In

I'm looking into headphones for my electric and am considering the Vox amPhone Active Guitar Headphones (that contain the amp inside the headphones and so plug directly into your guitar) vs. a Vox amPhone plug (that plugs into the guitar and then you plug in whatever headphones you want into that).

The fully contained headphones are 99 bucks vs. the plug-ins, which run about 50 dollars + whatever you want to spend on headphones.

I'm leaning toward the fully contained headphones, but I'm not sold yet. Anyone have any experience with either, or, or both?
