Default How do you hide guitars from your partner

I’ve read here where people are able to buy gear and have it shipped to work places or just bring it home without your spouse or partner knowing. Now guitars aren’t cheap or small so I’m not sure how you do this without getting caught? If you do get caught how do you explain it?

I suspect you're going to receive a boatload of marital advice.

As long as they are all broadly the same colour yo7 will be fine

I put a new one on a stand in the front room and it was hours before I sad to my wife, what do you think about the guitar, and she said she hadn’t noticed because it was red , like my other one!

I'm thinking you're going to need a good jeweller.

I don’t hide them from her. When I’ve bought a couple that were relatively more expensive than most, I’ve let her know I was going to and checked to make sure she didn’t have a problem with it. But my guitars live in the same home(s) she lives in, so I don’t hide them. That said, I don’t have a lot - 2-3 acoustics and one electric on each coast (we live in Oregon but spend winters in North Carolina, so I have gear in both places). They were far from cheap, but none cost me more than $4-5K and most were in the $2-3K range, so by AGF standards, probably around average cost.

At the end of the day, she’s far more important to me than they are, so I’d be more apt to lie to my guitars about the $$ I spend on my wife than to her about what I spend on the guitars…

I don't hide them either, but for anything where I don't want to have questions or remarks I make certain the shipment arrives in her absence and there is no obvious pile of packaging material left when she gets home. That way I can say that "I got it a certain time ago already" by the time she notices

LOL! Kinda like when my former guy asked if it was a new outfit, ‘oh this old thing? Had it for years!’ He wasn’t too observant. That being said now there is no subterfuge, we both suffer musical instrument acquisition syndrome and support each other to decrease any clear insanity. So we have a lot of nice toys to openly play which were discussed at length before purchase. We get excited for the other’s joy. Good luck with your journey.

I'm no psychoanalyst but, at a glance, it would seem that the need/desire to hide a guitar is a far bigger issue than finding a secret place to stash it. And from the purely logistical standpoint, wouldn't harmonica make a lot more sense?

This ^^^^ I'd say it's a sign of deeper problems and am usually saddened by threads like this on the AGF. It is my hope that we're people of integrity who have chosen supportive partners. If that's not the case, hiding guitars is just a symptom of larger concerns.
