Unhappy Koaguitarman

Russ "Koaguitarman" Lewark, known for his long "Fu Manchu" mustache, a long time fixture here on the AGF, SoCal host of numerous AGF GetTogethers, and the largest collector of both koa guitars and Taylor guitars, died at home today, Saturday 25 February 2017, about 2pm. Complications of a rare blood cancer, which he combatted for 3 years. He was 71.

Do not inquire about the guitar collection, it is also gone.

So sorry to hear. Just checked his profile. Last time he was on here was March 6, 2015.

I’m saddened by the news. Koaguitarman was one of the very few AGF members I’ve actually had the pleasure of meeting.

I'm sad to hear this. I have fond memories of the AGF Gathering I was able to attend at his and T's place. If there is a public memorial I hope someone will post the details.

This is from Russ' Photobucket account. I believe it originally appeared in Taylor's Wood and Steel quarterly.

Very sad news. I met Russ, and his wife a number of times, two of the kindest people you could ever meet. May he rest in peace.

I remember Russ fondly. He and I had many conversations on a wide range of topics. He was truly one of the Good Guys!

Another sad day for us. Russ was the reason I got interested in Koa and eventually bought my first Koa guitar. Keep playing up there Russ, we hear you.

Really sorry to read this news.....what a fight he put up.

Russ was a really good guy and will be missed by many here on the AGF.

My heart is heavy for all who knew and loved him.
