Bedroom to office is about 15 feet, but I have to factor in the diversion downstairs to the kitchen for breakfast. My Takamine LTD-2000 hangs next to my desk for when I need a little light relief.

Hopefully this will be my last job before retirement; I can't imagine having to go back to commuting to an office somewhere.

4.5 miles. At night and early on weekends, its 5 minutes. During the day, especially in winter, 20 minutes or longer is the norm.

I wish people would learn two simple rules-

1. The light always turns green after it is red.

2. Look in your rear view mirror is you feel like driving slow, because not everyone wants to drive 20 mph under the speed limit, or slow down when the light is green.

I've got it good. I'm 2 miles from work when I'm home (no traffic, 1 light) and I'm a 20 minute walk when I'm on the road at the client site.

Mine and my wife's is 2.6 miles each way. If I take the freeway it's about 2 miles of freeway along the Missouri River and three stop lights, about six eight minutes. If I take residential streets it's about 12 minutes.

Yup, it sucks, but my my kids sort of need to eat and stuff, and I have an awesome job that I love.

The place where I work is a college town, so housing here is idiotic.

I live in a big house in a poor county (3k square feet finished, 1k square feet unfinished, sitting on about 4 acres). The price that I paid for my house would buy about an 800 square foot condo in town or maybe, just maybe, a single-wide on a hill.

The drive, although about 45-50 minutes, gives me time to listen to music and drink coffee. On my way home, it gives me a little time to unwind before hitting the gym. Back when I had a more local job (that I didn't like), I would come home mad every day, and the 8-minute drive wouldn't give me enough time to process what had happened that day. By the time I get home now, I'm pretty chilled out which I think is very beneficial for both me and my family.

It's working, but it does have its drawbacks.

7 miles, 5 of those on the interstate, 6 traffic lights. 10-20 minutes.

There's a joke that you can get anywhere around Buffalo in 20 minutes and that's pretty accurate.

For six years I had a 45 minute commute way out into the boonies.

But for the other 25 years my commutes have all been 20-25 minutes.

No too bad at all.

62 miles each way, and in decent weather it takes about 75 minutes to drive.

I've been working from home, for the most part, for 12 years or more - so my typical 'commute' is down a flight of stairs to my (ahem) palatial basement office. The benefits are legion - for example, a 90 degree swivel to the right provides much diversion for long conference calls.

My current company does have office space nearby - about 14 miles away - which I visit once a week or so. I also clock up about 15,000 miles a year traveling to customers around the Twin Cities for meetings, but that corner in the basement is my base of operations.

Twenty five years ago I was commuting over an hour each way. I finally moved to within walking distance of the office, and what a difference in my life that made!!!

Those two hours a day were a tremendous boost to my life, not to mention the reduced stress and aggravation caused by the daily traffic grind.

The next two places were four and six miles from work, and the commute about ten to fifteen minutes depending on the number of red lights I hit.

Funny thing is that my wife was working out of the house for awhile, and I would come home ready to crash and she would just want to go out to get out of the house.

A few years later and she is commuting about six miles most days and I am working out of the house. Now when she comes home I am the one who is antsy to leave!

26-30 miles each way depending on traffic and the route choices. The morning commute is pretty standard but the afternoon commute takes me through the notorious Novato Narrows where 4 lanes go into 2. I’ve got music to listen to and cows and horses, hawks and egrets on both sides to keep me enjoying the scenery.

Best,
Jayne

4 stops on the Paris metro, or 15 mins on a bike.
