Okay. It's not mandatory, in any event!

Seriously, I've never had any trouble getting the pins and strings to fit into their pinholes when I've reversed the pins, but this has always been with factory-made guitars. On the four totally custom guitars that I own, I went with solid pins with slotted pinholes to begin with.

Interesting that my much more expensive d18 GE and HD35 came with plastic pins and my 00015m at over less than half the price has ebony...
