Hey Tim, great build and congrats to Rodger, this is going to be one sweet guitar.
Tim, what is the Murdoch's table top gloss that Rodger posted. Is this what is being used on this guitar?
If you can explain some details on it, that would be great!

Thanks!

Not to worry Kurt because this is brand new patent pondering, cutting edge, DNA markers. If your guitar is ever lost or stolen, we've got your back. Just when you thought chip implants for your pets were novel, that's old news. This is another fine example of breaking strides of the past and leading with innovative, thought provoking designs all coming to you from the front porch of the McShop ... as soon as we build it?

So you've got our back, and we have your eyelash?

Hi Dennis and thanks for your compliments. I used Murdoch's table top oil varnish on Rodger's guitar because he wanted a yellow-ish vintage looking varnish finish. Varnish is difficult to apply well IME, not that it is a bad finish but because its tricky for the inexperienced user to use. Perhaps I am too comfortable using my traditional catalyzed urethane lacquer finish and that varnish is soooo different in all aspects. I have used catalyzed urethane lacquer for a dozen or so years so I am very satisfied with it and I know its quirks well.

Applying varnish is akin to spraying water on your guitar and hoping it won't run off onto the floor. It doesn't build quickly and the successive coats do not melt or burn into the previous layer. Varnish is like draping layers of super thin tissue paper on your guitar. When you buff varnish out you hope like heck you don't buff through the top layer because you WILL see witness lines of the underlying layer(s). I like the look and feel of varnish but its not the ideal instrument finish for a novice to apply.

Ain't that the truth brother! Its really hard to work with this dred stuck to my forehead. I keep bumping into everything! It may have some positive side
benefits though, as I may shed a few pounds in the process of waiting for a lobotomy?

BTW, I am officially retired from my day job going on two years. It sure is nicer only working one full time job now

The gits in the background are [hopefully] for the Artisan Show in two weeks (IF) I can get them done in time? I'm still applying finish and I so dislike burning the midnight oil.

Some would say that keeping Mary happy is a full time job. I'm not one of those people (in case she reads this). I've just heard talk, you know ...

I'll show myself out now.

Looking fantastic folks.
Might have to make our next overseas ski trip to the states so I can hear this one.
Roger we might have to set up two skype sessions this year.

Coldshot ... you have my permission to work him over twice as much!

On a serious note:

It is wonderful that Rodger and Kathy take the time to assemble the Skype with Craig all the way from Australia so the entire group can see you and hear a tune played. Coldshot has NEVER missed a McJam and has never personally attended. That's true dedication. He even wears the McKnight shirt just like the rest of us.

It's all such great fun.

Hey Craig! Good to hear from you! Getting to be that time for our pre-McJam Skype to test out the airwaves and make sure we both remember how do that. It's been one of the highlights for me the last couple of McJams. A bit nerve wracking leading up to it hoping all the electrons align and it works. So far - so good.

When are you thinking about a ski trip to the States?

Mary: thanks for the permission to Craig to work me over. Tell Tim I said "Hi"
