Default Anything as well liked as FG830 but smaller?

I started learning guitar early January and picked up an FG 830 which I really like the guitar and really enjoy practicing every night.

I do notice it’s uncomfortable to play on couches or without good posture and sometimes wouldn’t mind something smaller. I am 6’ so not small just looking for comfort.

Is there anything as well regarded in the same relative price range but closer to this 00 or 000 size I keep hearing about.

Not ready to spend the money for martins at this point but if I stick with it would love to later

The smaller FS is wonderful as well, with a more balanced tonal range.

The FG is something like 16 1/4” across the lower bout which puts it in the small jumbo category, but the concert size version of the FG, the FS, is just shy of 15” across the lower bout, which makes it more comfortable for the couch.

I should have tried the fs too but everything I had read said it didn’t sound quite as full and thought I remeber the fs as being described for small frames and women so that also turned me off. My original line of thinking was I want the best sound no compromise so I got the 830.

Looking back it probably wouldn’t have been that different

You should try the 'Breedlove Discovery Concert'. They are the best sounding concert/folk size guitars I tried in the $300 price range. I take mine for traveling and on my boat in the Summer.

IMHO the FS series Yamaha cannot be touched for 199$-its an awesome guitar in every way.
I bought one to take to my cabin and forget how much it costs every time I pick it up.

I find this as well. The FS sounds more direct with less bass boom.

The Yamaha AC1M is a great concert size and is just a teeny step down from a dread. Also you wont notice much difference in sound. You should be able to find a used one for less than $400

I really like my Yamaha FS 820. Comfortable and sounds great. Actually like the sound of the smaller bodies more than dreads. Far easier to sing over.

In a Presidents' Day sale two years ago I bought the FS700s in my signature. I use it every week in the Reminiscence Group I do where I work. It has a great sound! The new 800 series are supposed to sound even better. I got it for $179 on sale. You cannot beat it for that price, period.

it's ways tradeoffs. The bigger dread gives you more volume and bass, but is uncomfortable, and the Concert size is more comfy, but lacks the dread's volume. Each has a purpose.

Also don't let the "small guitars are for women/kids" get to you. That's just ignorance
