My wife and I like the beaches, but tanning is not a priority. We use 30 rated sunscreen and wear hats. We have a couple of folding chairs each with a canopy. Although some people lay under an umbrella, most don't, and our chairs are the only ones we've seen with a canopy. We may look nerdy, but we don't care.
I used to wear muscle t-shirts in the sun when working outside. I got tired of the painful sunburns and the itching that happens when it heals so I don't do it anymore.

If you think that's bad, I used to play baseball (not softball) with a bunch of guys at Harvard Stadium back in the 70's. One game, we had one of those miserable Charlie Brown innings where we couldn't get anybody out and the other team scored 13 runs. I must have stood out in the outfield for an hour and a half just in that one inning. I got a bad sunburn right through the T-shirt I was wearing.
"Please, God! Can we PLEASE get somebody OUT?!?"

She's only 29 really.

I don't know about in the US as you do actually have sun (!) but there has been a fashion here in recent years for teenagers and young women to plaster on fake tan or regularly visit a tanning shop (which seem to have sprung up everywhere). Gangs of uniformly orange girls hang around the streets of our towns and cities. On a wet Wednesday in February their powers of self delusion are legion and a manifestation of a poorly educated, over-indulged and aimless underclass. It's sad IMO.

She's only 29? Really? She looks like she smokes like Keith Richards!
Whatever shall we do with all these undead people running around?

My comment about the "undead" still stands. Talk about "crazy and old before your time"!

A couple of years back the term "Tanorexic" was pretty popular.

Sorry, I was joking about her age but yes, the Keith Richards look is well on its way.

Not to hijack this thread, but a bunch of kids I went to high school with and I have been placing bets on "When is Keith Richards gonna die?" since the 1970's.
We're still waiting... and Keith doesn't look any better, either.
