Default So I finally pulled the trigger on an Emerald (Vid included)

Same story. Got fed up with humidifying my wooden guitars and wanted something I didn't have to baby so much. My first CF was a CA Cargo. It's OK. Honestly wasn't thrilled about the overall build quality and playability. I still have it and use it as a beater / take anywhere guitar. So it serves a purpose. Recently picked up an Emerald X20 Opus. I was hoping to be blown away and I certainly am. Just a gorgeous guitar. Plays and sounds like a dream. I had a K&K mini installed, but in the vid below it is not amplified. Literally the best playing acoustic I have ever owned. Emerald far exceeded my expectations in every area.

I bought it from MacNichol Guitars. Shame he will no longer be dealing. Just a great guy. He did install the K&K and well as a mother of pearl saddle which he claimed warms up the sound a bit.

Nothing fancy in this vid, just a quick demo. Excuse the sound quality, just shot on my iPhone.

Oh man! I have been planning on getting one of these but I was waiting to see how the new x10's would look. Awesome guitar, I'll probably end up ordering one of these next month.

Congrats! I like your playing style as well, great playing. I'm sure you could rock an electric - are you also an electric player?

Great video CodeContra!!! Esp since the i-Phone & my computer speakers are not "up to snuff"...
Heartwarming to see other players get the same thrill that I do with the X20-OS...
You did good Amigo...

Congratulations! I'm looking forward to playing one of those someday. I've got a Cargo which serves its purpose very well. Sure is nice not having to humidify it! Hope you enjoy...

Thanks, everyone! Yeah I am thrilled. Now debating whether or not to sell my wood acoustics.

Dru Edwards, thank you!! I sold all my electric guitars and gear a couple years ago and haven't looked back. Thought I would miss playing electric, but haven't at all. I strictly play acoustic now and love it.

Congratulations and nice playing! The X20 is a good match for you.

Regarding selling your wood guitars... a guitarist I met yesterday is seriously considering selling his 1958 Martin D28 and getting an X20... after playing mine for 5 minutes! The Emerald is a seductive guitar, so it is.

BTW, I couldn't quite tell with the lighting in your video... what color did you get?

Nicely done - I say replace the Cargo with the last X7 Michael has! I really liked the change to the MOP saddle on my X7, plus 80/20 mediums.

Love the warm strummed tones. Emerald is quickly growing on me as an idea for a second CF. That is a cool instrument you scored right there

Awesome! I bought an x20 with the K&K in January, and honestly haven't had much use for my other guitars ever since. Everybody rants about the sound, both plugged in and not.

You know, another thing about my x20. I've had it nearly five months now, and the strings (the mediums Michael at MacNichol sent it with) sound and play like they're brand new, like I just changed them yesterday. Anybody have any idea why that might be?

The color is the standard black. I am saving up to get another, possibly an Artisan and thinking about going with the "woody" color. Almost like a yellowish, looks mighty sweet in the photos. The red also looks pretty.

epluribus36, I can't imagine your strings have much to do with the guitar. Although I suppose the brightness and clarity of a carbon fiber guitar could help older strings not sound so dead compared to a wooden instrument. It's a stretch, but possible I suppose. Likely, it's just a good coated string that he put on the guitar. I believe MacNichol uses Elixirs but I'm not positive. I'm sure he could tell you if you email him. This way you can stick with the same strings down the road seeing as they are working so good for you. I personally prefer D'Addario EXP phosphor bronze (coated). I also only change strings a couple times a year.
