The latest from Chris is that all the wood working and finish prep on the guitar is done.

Here's the front.

The back.

And finally, a more detailed shot.

Thanks for viewing!

Very nice! So when does the Finnish go on? And does he really have to send it all the way to Scandinavia? Is there nor way that it can be done locally?

Thanks John, that is much appreciated. So far everything is pulling together beautifully with this build. I really like how the marbling in the ebony mixed with the maple of the inlay really mesh with the body. I find it to be elegant and understated.

Jon,
The only traveling my guitars have to do to get shiny is to go from one end of the shop to the other. I used to send my guitars out, but I found that guitars almost always need touching up during the final set up phase and it is a lot harder (and costly with shipping) to have to send a guitar back to your finisher to have it touched up. Plus, I am a huge control freak and prefer to be able to do the work myself- even though it can be a real headache at times.

I'm the exact same way, and would do the same were I a luthier

Chris also likes to torture people.

Just received another update from him. Seems that barring any unforeseen circumstance causing a delay, I should be getting Zacchaeus in late November.

Here's a shot of the pore fill being applied.

I don't think it did, but if we are lucky Chris will chime in and confirm that for you.

I'm very pleased with the guitar as a whole - it has turned out far better than I had imagined. I agree with you that the rosette is lovely - the subtle shift from light to dark really worked out nicely.

I don't think there will be much if any progress posted over the next little while - though once the finish has been completed there should be some lovely pictures and if we are nice, Chris may even put up a sound clip before shipping to me.

Chris, I take back all those bad things I said about you.

Colin, I still meant them about you

Ok, all joking aside, this is an exciting update showing the beginning of the final stretch!

littlesmith,
The rosette came from the same board as the back/sides. I cut it all myself and used the off cuts for rosette and headstock overlay stock. That way I can get a perfect match.

The finish is curing so Chris moved on to getting the pinless bridge ready.

Here's the macassar ebony blank.

Starting to take shape.

And finally finished, oiled and waiting to be joined to the top.

Oh, wow, I didn't realize it was going to be a pinless bridge. So does that mean you're just going to be on needles and not pins as you await this guitar's arrival?

Great piece of macassar ebony that will look fabulous on that Lutz top.
