Default 13s on L series????

Been told different types of strings they put on L series guitars. I don't think they know.....lastest is Elixir nanos.... Told D'addario EXPs before that. Came with a extra pack of EJ11s..... Website did say FS50t (something)....... Dealer said some kind of folk strings......

I want to experiment with some 13s. Didn't see anything about not trying 13s on their website. Anyone with L series try and how did work?

Jed

From the factory they recommended 12-53 . I have recently bought a Yamaha Transacoustic. This guitar is basically the same guitar minus the actuator. My guitar was fitted from the factory with elixir 12-53 , I must say I am really impressed with these , the tone and playability of the strings are first rate

I have used medium PB strings on my L-20A for over 35 years with no issues.
I love the full/ rich tone that I get with medium gauge strings.

These guitars are braced to handle medium gauge strings, so the 13s would be fine (says that in their literature). Those strings would be a bit more punchy and focused...like the sound of a ripping bluegrass flatpicker. They will tend to damp the top a bit and give more string/body tone

My own preference is for the 12-53, standard light gauge strings as I want to allow more top excursion...easier to get it moving under a light touch.

I tried 13s on mine but didn't like the result. I see no structural reason why you couldn't use them though.

Here's some strings that were recommended to me recently.

13's but without the extra tension of regular 13's.

Newtone Heritage Low Tension 13-55

I haven't tried them myself but I've made a note to order a set next time I'm string shopping.

Here's a link to them on the AGF sponsor 'Strings By Mail' site;https://www.stringsbymail.com/newton...-55-15752.html

Jed, those strings will work perfectly well on a Larrivee L body guitar. They certainly won’t structurally endanger it.
