Apologies to Trevor at TAMCO for briefly hijacking your build thread. I'll shut up for now and continue to watch from the back of the class

I am not versed enough in the English countryside to vote on the name, but I do want to say, Holy Cow look at the size of those logs out front!!! Also what is that blue coloration in the sky, does that scare the natives when it is not gray and overcast LOL.

Default Sides!

Plates are inlaid, so we can move on to the curvier parts of the instrument.
I found the EBOak easy enough to bend. The color bled on the bender, my hands, pretty much everything in the vicinity. But, that didn't affect the shade of these sides:

Out of the bending form, into the mold for blocks and linings:

And a bit out of sequence, here is Ryan prepping the back edge of the sides to receive the backs's curvature. The rails either side of the mold establish the front-to-back taper. This truing step can get noisy, so experience dictates a good set of ear protectors:

Thanks for watching,

Steve

Gluing the back:

You will notice some hefty rubber bands, gaggled together for downward pressure. It is amazing the amount of force applied.
And here's a pic I love--Ryan twisting and shouting:

I love this because of the cardio-vascular benefit. A complete upper body workout, that keeps his waist trim and his wits sharp.
Plus...I don't have to do it.

Thanks for following along,

Steve

Oh brother. I will give anyone $50 off their guitar if they'll come and do that one step though. It's a workout. One day we'll join the high tech luthiers - like John - that have motorized this process.

Brother, we're probably too old to get it. Definitely not cool enough.

Forgot to chronicle a step or two. Like back braces. Here they are, fitted between the center seam strip, right before carving:

Da man checking the thickness of brace ends. Pockets will be routed into the linings to accept that depth:

And fitting that pretty back onto the rims. Lining up centerline fore and aft locates brace pockets, which are cut in with a router:

All this was done before Ryan's Rim Rotations.

Thanks,

Steve

I know nuthin, that is the first thing to throw out there, but would there not be a way to make the sanding disc spin while the guitar is held still?

Oh yeah, there's a way. In fact, I've seen several clever ways to spin the disc.
Building such a device is on the "to do" list, but several other things are ahead of it. I bet you know how that goes.

Translation: "As long as Ryan's here to do it, there's no urgent need to build one."
