Joel, I'm really impressed by how quickly you learn new pieces! This thread's seriously one of my favorites.

Stunning combination of guitar and performance. My hunch is that you would still sound great on a Kay.

Wooo - my head's spinning with all this tech talk, so thanks to these threads I've discovered, thanks to Dad-Gee (or D-Gad) experts - I don't need a FF to experiment with this, or any other tuning, thankfully for my wallets sake.
I've come to the conclusion scale vs string gauge is the answer, as Mr Pierre Bensusan obviously found out decades ago.

Speaking of which,

(10%) makes a difference in how the energy drives the top. In this conversation, though, I think, "made for DADGAD" is about the scale length, not the construction.
wouldn’t the FF scale lengths / gauges throw all of these figures / tensions out the window ? and also DADGAD specific string sets ?

I see Mr Bensusan gauge for DADGAD is -
13 17 23 32 42 56
and other brands are as good as the same -
13,17,24w,32w,42w,56w
D'Addario
EJ24 Phosphor Bronze, True Medium, 13-56
.013, .017, .024, .032, .042, .056
which states -
“these gauges are optimal for DADGAD tuning” !!!!!!!!!!!! (there's that word again)
some suggest -
John Pearse New Mediums. They run 13, 17, 24, 32, 42, 55.

does this suggest Mr Bensusan's (two) Lowdens soundboard & bracing system guitars with his chosen string gauge would be the real ‘optimised for dadgad’.

Joe, great sound, what mic u using, did I see a small Apogee ?.
couldn’t help but notice you guys must all be Clark Kent fans.
And do you find the r/upper arm up off the l/b helps r/h hand position ?.

Thanks guys. It sounds cliched but this guitar does give me a lot of inspiration, so I'm really enjoying learning new pieces & seeing what new sounds I get.

As for the DADGAD queries, those are probably best answered by the experts. Michael Watts and Michael Greenfield were incredibly helpful guiding me thru the process, and the result (which is all that matters) is a guitar that can handle the tunings I like to play in and is super comfortable to play.

Westman - my previous videos used an Apogee MiC, which is a great little mic and makes for a simple setup. However, I recently treated myself to a pair of Neumann KM184s and an Apogee interface. That's what you're hearing in the most recent video here.

And regarding the bevel, it does really help as its not a small guitar but it's very very comfortable to play. Have happily sat for hours at a time without any strain.

Joel

This part is all that matters. Your recordings are also light years ahead of what you published last year. I hope you enjoy this guitar for years to come.

It was more of a rhetorical question actually (and I suspect Doug's question was in the same category). A multi-scale isn't rocket science and is easy to figure out using grade school math. Again, what matters is that you're happy with the outcome.

Made a thread about this in the RECORD section but for sake of completeness, here's the latest recording on the Greenfield. This was a very quick attempt at testing mic placement & using zero eq for a more 'live' natural sound.

Enjoy

As James has said... I would imagine you have a job to be able to afford gear like that. You must have really good time management to be able to juggle that and playing so well! A very much well deserved instrument; keep the videos coming
