Default Julian Bream Masterclass

Lots of insight into Bach's A-minor Fugue.

Wonderful. Unbeknownst to me at the time, I saw Mr. Bream play at his last public performance of his last public tour. He played this and the rest of the suite from which it comes.

I played this piece for years and its one of my favourites. And, Mr. Bream is my favourite classical guitarist.

Thanks for sharing it. Inspires me to start playing again.

The piece needs to fall forward (inevitably), but with feeling

Bern,
Many thanks for posting that link. Very insightful info from a great artist and musician. He really drives home the importance of understanding a challenging work like this before plunging ahead to play it.

Rick, what did you mean by that exactly?

Connectedness, expectation from one point in the piece to the next. With the performer it is maintained by correct timing, accenting, and phrasing. For example the first performer in the clip was quite disjointed in a number of ways - was hard to listen to IMO.

That said, certainly some composers in some of their music go for somewhat the opposite effect, and if that is their intension, and it fits into a larger context, it's fine.
