By the Time We Get to Woodstock
This will be my first foray to the Woodstock Showcase. We'll be there Friday and Saturday before flying back home Sunday afternoon. Look forward to seeing some old friends and making a few new ones and of course checking out the fine selection of luthier crafted instruments on display.

Hey all, I'm planning to attend the festival on Sat & Sun. Question for those that have been there before. Any risk in just buying tickets at the door? I know I get can get them online, but I'd rather just do it there but I certainly don't want to risk being turned away. Anybody run into such an issue at past shows?

This was my third visit to WILS. This one had to be brief, but even a brief visit is so full of visual, aural and social stimulation. Perhaps the star feature of the weekend was the incredible foliage of the Catskills. It wasn’t the brightest autumn display by a long shot, but it’s a splendid time to be in the northeast. If you have never been, put this on your bucket list. Friday is always a light day; likely 500 in attendance.
My favorite guitar of the show had to be a Grit Laskin original in Dick Boak’s collection. Grit is pictured (using inlay of course) on the headstock, with paintbrush in hand, drawing on the fretboard. I had a fabulous time talking with Jason Kostal, Bruce Sexauer, Stephen Kinnaird and Massi Monterosso. Bruce’s wonderful walnut build from last year’s show ended up in Australia. I played many of their guitars, and to tell the truth, it’s hard to evaluate a guitar in that environment , but you can appreciate the build quality, the set-up and the vibration of the instrument (and boy, they vibrate) I only caught three performances this afternoon: Paul Asbell, Mark Lemaire and the third – a fabulous performer using Peter Einhorn’s Spider Capo (who was that? was that Antoine Dufour?). The sound system is fabulous and you can hear every nuance of the performance. I’m not sure if the performances encouraged me, or finally convinced me to quit this evil instrument! There were a ton of luminaries from the guitar world in attendance – and everyone was talking about guitars. I’ll let this be an intro and as the weekend goes on, I hope others will chime in. Best, Rick PS – stay away from the wood tent – just stay away or you might be tempted to attempt luthiery. Cripes, you think playing a guitar is hard, try building one!
