Ha! Good eye. Truth be told, I started with the goal of having some subtle and irregular figuring - and Jason went as far as to order a set from a vendor for me - but it didn't quite measure up when I saw it up close. So I decided to just go with this fiddleback set, which is gorgeous, perfectly quartered, very old, and very well aged. I offered to pay for the extra set that Jason ordered, but Jason being the guy that he is, wouldn't let me pay.

I have to admit, this is a particularly stunning set of mahogany. I think it will look great on a jumbo.

Looking forward to this one... His first 12? After playing the guitars that Jason brought with him to Memphis, I know I need to add one to the collection someday.

Thanks, JR. Yep, Jason's first 12 string. It'll also be one of the few times I've heard of him using red spruce.

Thumbs up

Wow! That's a lovely set of mahogany!

Really excited about this build - I'll be following it closely. Spec very much up my street.

I almost went with a jumbo instead of the Mod D for my (6 string) Kostal build, but I think for a 12 it'd be all about the Jumbo. Which reminds me, I need to keep on planting the seed with Jason that he really wants to build a Jumbo Baritone... and that I'm the one to look after the prototype..

Hi, saw this thread on a search and interested to know how you are getting on with your Kostal 12 string. I have a 12 fretter just arrived and it is pretty special....
