What year is your D-35?
I hear that Martin have hit a sweet spot with the D-35. |

Mine is a 2013. So it's about a year old, barely played, no wear. Mint condition.

Congratulations. They are indeed special. Several years ago I fell for a HD-35 at a local store. When I hit 40 my wife surprised me with a GAS fund of $800 which was nowhere near the $2K I needed. GAS pumped in my veins however and I HAD to buy something. Oddly, things took a turn and I was seduced by the tone of a mahogany/Sitka D-16GT. To my ears it sounded nearly as good so I put it on layaway and scrounged up another $150 to make it mine comfortable in my decision and patting myself on the back for "saving" money.
Then in a moment of weakness I found myself in Guitar Center with an MMV on my lap. Doubt crept in and pushed the HD-35 further down the list and spoiled the D-16GT for me. The moral of story: love the one you're with. Enjoy your D-35. It was meant to be.

They are great guitars. I do miss my 35, but it succumbed to GAS. I miss it, but for now would not want to give up what I have to get another. Maybe someday.

Several years ago I played an HD-35 at FQMS that amazed me.I would play it a while then put it down to walk away and think about it some. Did this three times and the next time I went to play it someone else had it and was playing tunes for his wife.Never got another chance to hold that guitar, and I still think about the one that I let slip through my fingers.

LOL, yeah we're all polygamists here. That's why I understand my wife's attitude toward my guitars. I try not to talk about how I like slimmer waists and ample lower bouts out of deference - and I've made it a point NOT to name my guitars. If I did I'd be in REAL trouble.

I also have a 2013 D-35 I got from Jon at MFG.
I am impressed with it every time I play it. I have recently acquired a 2012 D-18, although they sound different, I am very impressed with it is as well. But the D-35 ain't going no where. |

My D-35 is a monster guitar!
My D-35 is the best sounding guitar I own. I bought it used, with an aftermarket pickup, and it has a fair amount of "bear claw" on the top, which I like a lot.
Tomorrow, I'll be taking delivery on my another D-35, a 1977 vintage 12-string Martin slope shoulder 12-fret model. They should make a nice looking pair. I don't know why the seller decided to let it go at such a reasonable price, but I just couldn't pass up the opportunity. The seller let me know it has it's share of dings, some minor crazing on the top, a hairline crack in the rear center panel and minor wood separation just below the pickguard. All easily fixable. He said he has never had any neck issues. Even though there no adjustable truss rod, the action is good. I consider myself very lucky to acquire this vintage guitar, and fully expect it will sound fabulous. There is always a degree of risk, but I think it was a smart decision. What do you think? Glen

Well if the action is good you should be all set. If not you may need a neck reset because of it's age. I had a 12-20 years ago that sounded great but was very difficult to play. It desperately needed a neck reset. I ended up selling it. The 12-35 though, is a different animal...should be great. I've never played one, but if it's anything like my D-35, it should be an awesome guitar. For a guitar of that age, a few battle scars here or there is no big deal. My D-18 is loaded with cracks and dings and scars, but still sounds great. My D-35 though is in mint like new condition. I want to keep it that way as long as possible, so I'm keeping it in the case most of the time. I don't lock the case, but keep it closed to keep the dust off of it.

Congrats and welcome to the 35 team! I find that mine doesn't sing...it bellows. Like a leviathan.
Enjoy
