Joe, welcome to the forum........

I have a '94 612c quilt, same as the one you pictured, but with a 2 piece back. I'm very lucky to have purchased it a year or so ago.

Great player, with that wonderfully slim pre-NT neck. A very big sound from a small bodied guitar, plenty of punchy bass and, of course, those shimmery maple trebles. Mine has a Fossilized Walrus saddle.

I don't consider these to be "collectibles" but mid 90's 612c Taylors are hard to find, and not too many players are willing to let them go once they purchase them. I have no intention of ever selling this guitar.

I dropped you a PM on price...........

Gary

Hi, Joe. Good to have you with us! I have a '95 Cotten Special 612c. Taylor made about 60 of these for Cotten Music Center in Nashville. It has the sharp, florentine cutaway, and a custom cotton bole on the inlay - my "own" Signature model! About half way down this page, there is a picture of me enjoying it out on the back deck.

I love it's tone - bright and clear, without being then or brassy. It's capable of a surprisingly big sound when driven hard, but I prefer its response to my attempts at fingerstye playing. It records wonderfully, especially if you have a bass or keyboard covering the bottom end. Oh, it's bass is strong enough for most purposes, just don't expect it to sound like a big bodied dread or jumbo.

It's neck feels great in my hands. I can play for extented periods without fatigue.

In a nutshell, I think you are really going to enjoy your "new" guitar! Hope you enjoy hanging out here with us.

I have three Taylors from the 1990s (mahogany, rosewood, and koa) and while none are maple they are all incredible sounding high quality instruments.

Be sure you get that case that is shown in the photo. It looks like it is a "pink poodle" which would be the correct and orginal case for that guitar. The 90s was also the era when Taylor actually made their own extra high quality cases in El Cajon along with the guitars.

my wife has the exact same taylor. 1994 3 piece back 612c.
we traded a J-45 for it and some money.
she still thinks it was worth it. i miss the J-45.

great fingerstyle guitar. strums well too.

and i agree with paul, the mid 90 taylor necks are fantastic. great wooden voice all in all. we will never sell that one.

Yes, but not being able to buy a guitar is worse. Enjoy the wait. It will be worth it, I promise!

Hi, folks. I just joined the forum yesterday. I recently acquired a 1995"Cotten" model 612c. I did a little research on the model and this discussion was among the few results of my search. It's great reading the positive comments related to my most recent investment. I've had a number of Taylors and still do. I get the most use out of my XXX-MC, but I expect my new Cotten will ge getting a lot of attention now. I also have a couple of Martins: a '91 MC-28 and an '06 00016C SRNE, nylon string. When I do solo hymn arrangements in church, nothing beats the mellow nylon.

Cotten, looks like we have a number of things in common: I also play in church, have a '99 914c, am in a handbell choir, and live in middle GA. I look forward to swapping stories with you guys.
