Pickup position when replacing
Hi all,
If I'm replacing a bridge pickup do I need to make sure I replace it with another bridge position pickup or are they all the same regardless of their position?

Modern bridge pickups are generally wound a little hotter for slightly higher output to balance out the natural loudness advantage of neck pickups due to greater string movement across the magnet closer to the middle of the active string length.

What kind of guitar? Some do have position specific pickups like Telecasters, others just use different ones to tailor the sound.

Pickup position when replacing

Sorry I should have been more specific. I'm looking at a Fender gold lace sensor for my strat. I have a red lace in the bridge and want to go back to gold. I've been searching for an older Fender Lace series vs. just a normal Lace. I found one, Just not sure if it needs to be bridge specific.

Gotcha. FrankHudson's post is spot on. Nothing says you are bound by law to use only bridge pickups in the bridge position; some guitarists intentionally mismatch pickups and some pickups are almost perfectly interchangeable. But, you'll probably get the sound closest to what you want if you go with something built to sound best in that position.

I've had the neck/middle version of this pickup in the bridge position of my Strat for many years, it's balanced fine. I'm not sure if it's hotter or colder than the bridge version, the strings move more near the neck but the pickup is usually farther away too. I think the color differences of the lace sensors relate more to tone than which position they go in.

Pickup position when replacing
I might jump on it as a replacement although I'm not sure if it's specifically for the bridge position. But my Strat comes stock with a Gold Lace in the bridge so I'm assuming it will be the same. Thanks all for the info
