Danelectro sound on "expresso love" by dire straits?

Do you guys think the opening riff of this album version is a danelectro? Ignore when the band comes in and the strats start, more interested in the first eight bars or so.

Sorry, the link would not copy. Do a search on Mark Knophler's gear on Expresso Love..Schecter Dream Machine sunburst 1980, Strat copy.

Apparently the guitar was stolen from him

I heard that guitar was stolen too; the Schecter strat copy was on a different track than the opening riff. It's on a very unique single coil that does not sound stratty in any way.

Any other suggestions?

This link does sight two Danelectros but does not mention Expresso Love for either of them

It mentions the Schecter as being used on the album Making Music (which doesn't mean it still could not be the Danelectro on that track)

I don't know if it's a Dano, but I'm almost positive I could cop that tone with my Dano.

It seems very unlikely. The link says a Danelectro first showed up on a track in 2004. Espresso Love was released in 1980, 24 years earlier. He probably didn't even own one back then.
